Ft Lauderdale, FL-Let It Fly 4Man No Contact |

Let it fly the
world’s largest 4on4 flag football tour completed its 12th
event this past weekend with 175 teams and just under 1000
players present over the two days. The 2003/2004 tour is
gradually winding down with only three events remaining at
Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco. Let It Fly is in its 10th
year and was originally called the Air It Out tour owned by
the NFL. The top four teams from each division will advance to
the Let it fly Nationals scheduled for May 29th & 30th in
Lakeland, Florida an hour west of Orlando.
This was the first time the tour went to Ft Lauderdale in
March, as it usually is played in December. Twenty champions
were crowned in the tournament , In the competitive B title
game Murder Inc beat Salsa magic 27-20 as MVP quarterback
Willie Lavant threw four touchdown passes to his four
different receivers Matt Puluski, Darren Brunnel, Conrad St
Jean and Kevin Velazeur. While in the competitive A title game
Strikeforce easily beat Take it to the cross by 20-6. The
recreational A division Category 5 defeated Mobb for the title
while in the B’s Highlight Red beat the Platinum Pimps, in the
C division Title Sam Ex defeated Last Call 21-20 in what was
seen as the most controversy ever in a 4on4 game.
The Coach Potato Div title game was recorded as explosive with
Lesegitation outlasted Still Bain 32-26 in a shootout. The
game MVP quarterback Adelfo “fofi” Iians threw five TD passes
in the game to four of his best that included Ray Bule, Jesse
Fiagaro and the game winning 40 yard TD to Adam Diaz with less
than 30 seconds left in the game.
In the Top Gun division twenty four local teams showcased
their skills and talent for all to see, with most originating
from Miami. Mob defeated Deep threat by 24-14 for the
title.Although this division is considered across the flag
football market as the best ball players it also holds ground
for being the most controversial. In this sector the players
literally do anything to win, and use all the tricks in the
book. Inverted flags, hurry up offense, no handing back the
flags are all core parts of the winning mentality in this
division. The tribe of Miami is a typical example of the above
explanation. The tribe is one of the teams that took advantage
of the whole sportsmanship notion, after the opposing team
scored their extra point the QB would quickly line up under
the center and throw a pass to a receiver before the opposing
defense would have a chance of getting onto the field.

Florida-Girls High School Season Kicks off
The Florida State girls high school
championship kick-off on the 5th of April capping an exciting
debut last year. Any flag football enthusiasts, follower or fan
would have thought that whoever wrote last year's article titled
"USA makes headway with girl's flag football" must
have been out of his mind thinking that a USA women's team was
ready to win the IFFF
World Cup of flag football event. Well, if you had such thoughts,
hold tight because you were proved wrong. In 2003 Florida State
started making headway with girls' flag football using the Girls
High School State Championship as a foundation for the growth of
the female sector.
The female program was exceedingly successful last year with 90
schools participating in
the Florida high school flag football program and with high
expectations for this year's event.
In this year's high school program there will be over 100 schools
participating with a focus on Royal Palm Beach and Wellington High
school even though the other 98 schools will have a completely
different viewpoint.
From within the hundreds of athletes that participated in last
year's program only four players were selected to play for the
women's USA team that represented the country at the 5th annual
World Cup of flag football. Sam Walker (14 year old LB/WR), Jesse
Phillips (17 yr old C), Kelly Woodruff (16 year old WR) and Katie
Storey (16 yr old WR/CB) all played on the historic USA team that
won the World Cup in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. These girls
are still part of the high school program and have gained
extensive experience playing with athletes from teams such Raw
Talent, Gators and the Stingrays all local Florida teams.
The rules have changed from high school to college rules with the
introduction of the one yard rush that makes life extremely
difficult for the quarterback to sit, read a throw a calculated
pass to a wide receiver. The introduction of this new rule arrives
with the thought that a one yard rush is for the better of the
game. A rule that is only great for players with speed and let's
just say would rather scramble than think, read and learn how to
destroy a defense. Speaking with many of the coaches running
programs in the Florida area, they concluded that the one yard
rush does not help the girls learn how to play quarterback. There
argument is based around the speed factor and only a fast QB could
avoid the rush, scramble and pick out the open wide receiver. The
game is supposed to be learnt at this level, as most players don't
have the quickness of Michael Vick or Donovan McNabb. Players
should be given the chance to gradually progress in the game.
Overall it doesn't really matter what rules are been played
because we have a female growing sector in the flag football
industry. It is very important for media sources to have a good
focus on how this program gets along in Florida as it will soon
infect the whole country. Without a doubt women's flag football
will be good as it grants females that opening to play a sport
they normally only watch but also at recreational and competitive
levels. Gradually females across the USA will see the potential
the sport holds and just like in Mexico and Canada whom have been
dominating the sport for 10 years it shall become a leading sport…
