Boston Metro Flag Football League Championships

By Stephanie T. Sosa

the Boston Metro League ended its ninth season with the crowning of some fearsome competitors.  This season showcased the most teams and allowed for some very close championship games.

Leading the A Division, the Hitmen finished with a 25-20 victory over previosuly unbeaten Alliance and finished off another successful season.  The B Division proved a difficult title to take, as both teams battled it out on the field.  After going into overtime, the Shamrocks were barely able to tiptoe past No Sleep, 15-14, and take the division title. The Shamrocks went undefeated on the season at 10-0  Finally, in the C Division it was a clear shutout with Riderz taking the game over Terminators, 24-0. Riderz had 3 losses in the early part of the season but turned it around in the end.
In the 4Man A Div Title match, the Superheros crushed CWD by mercy ruling them 28-0 in both games . The B division was a titly fighted match as Ltown edged out the Hamemrbeads in both games.

Ft Lauderdale,FL-World Cup Qualifier
CANADIANS TAKE MIAMI -SHOW WHY THEY ARE WORLD CHAMPS
by Scott E. Green
Ft. Lauderdale (FL) - Florida has more outstanding 7Man No Contact teams than any other state in the Union. Yet no Florida team has not won the 7Man No Contact Ft. Lauderdale World Cup Qualifier since 2001. And this year it was no different.

Team Canada entered the tournament as a tune-up for the World Cup in Miami Feb. 24th-28th.

On Saturday the Canadians did not do well for many reasons including that they had to adjust from touch football rules to flag football rules, fields with dimension that are not used in Canada and recovering from Miami night life where bars do not close until 5 am. However Saturday was merely for seeding.

Nevertheless on Sunday Team Canada cruised through a series of massive victories in order to win the tournament. They smashed Florida Memorial 29-0. Then they faced the no. 1 seed, Most Wanted for the semi-finals in a savage back and forth game..

With 36 seconds remaining in the first half, Team QB Rod Moore connected with Tony Stewart on a 50 yard strike to take a 20-14 lead. In the second half Most Wanted marched down to the three yard line but failed to score and tie the game. Within the last 55 seconds Team Canada did a five yard pass to take a 25-20 lead. However 'Tiger' of Most Wanted intercepted the conversion play and touched down for the 2 points. However the game ended on the interception of a Most Wanted pass by Team Canada's Wayne McCoy.

The championship game between Team Canada and Alpha Omega was equally intense. The Canadians scored first with a 40 yard strike from QB Rod Moore to James Finner who also caught the 1 point conversion. Alpha Omega's QB Brian Baer answered back with a 20 scoring pass to Derrick 'Hollywood' Brown. This was answered back by Team Canada's QB Moore's 55 yard pass to Tony Stewart (slipping by defender Brian Blair).. The score was now 13-6. The awesome Canadians stopped a scoring drive by Alpha Omega on their two yard line. Then Stewart caught a pass over two defenders to run for a 35 yard scoring run. So Team Canada had a commanding 20-6 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half Alpha Omega scored first with a 20 yard run by Derrick Brown. Team Canada answered back with a 20 yard scramble by Donne Carle. Alpha Omega's final score came with a 40 yard run by Quinton McEldon. Team Canada then had two unanswered touchdowns; a 40 yard backward run by Paul Shorten and a 20 yd catch by Gordon Laverty. On defense Wayne McCoy had five interceptions.

In the Men's 4Man title game Legion of Doom took it by one point over Down South, 21-20 in a back and forth battle that came down to the games final play.

4Man Silver title was taken by Gold, a team under 18,beat another under 18 team, Nothing Personal. The final score was 26-20.

Queen Beez took two titles, 7Man Woman (or should it be 7Person) 4Man Women. Eleven teams were in the tournament, the largest group of women teams in a tournament so far.
To date over 100 teams have qualified for the 6th Annual World Cup Extravaganza slated for Miami Feb 24-28th. Only the first 80 teams will be allowed to enter due to field constraints and over 10 of the biggest qualifiers remain.

Forty Seven teams have entered this weekends college regional tournament in the Cornhusker state at the University of Nebraska. Five CoRec teams have entered with the WoodChucks and Beavers the heavy favorite to win. They have been to the College nationals the past three years. In the women's division there are 9 teams, with FlagMag's #1 Women's Team, Going Deep of Houston, TX participating. There will be no women's team that will come close to beating them this weekend. The Men's division is wide open as all 33 teams are relatively new with the exception of Amish Mafia, who have been to college nationals a few times, and will be wearing bright yellow pants.

Texas-College Regionals
40 Teams will take part in the Texas College Regional. For the first time it will be held at Sam Houston State.  Baylor University  has hosted the event the past several years  where well over 100 teams usually enter. This tournament was usually dominated by Baylor teams but this year not one team from the University has entered the contest.  Then Men's  and CoRec  divisions are  wide open as all the teams are new and unproven.
The  Women's division will be the most exciting as three  of last years final four at college nationals  will take part. The clear favorite will be Sam Houston's Goin Deep who are currently ranked #1. The have won two World Cup Qualifying tournaments. Goin Deep will be led by All Americans -QB Tamara Nicholes and WR Jamie Tomasini. Another top contender will be -" HOW YOU FEELING"-Aggravated of North Texas, who have one of the best coaches in the sport, Artez Parramore.  Last years College National Champs, Stephen F Austin has struggled this year. In the World Cup Dallas Tournament, they finished last, and there only win was against a high school team in double overtime.
