Dallas,TX-World Cup Qualifier
A Record number of women took part in the Dallas World Cup
qualifying event. Interest amongst the women has taken off since
the USA women won last years World Cup Title for the first time
ever. Three of the teams(SFA,Aggravated & Go In Deep) placed in
the top four at last years College Nationals. This was the first
time a world cup qualifying tournament had more women than men.
All the women’s teams were evenly matched as in pool play all the
games came down to the final play, but fatigue played a factor
later on as teams had to play 4 to 5 games in the single day
tournament. Six of the Seven round robin games had a difference of
6 points; the closest game was when the College National Champs
SFA defeated the youngest team, the Wildcats of Deerfield beach,FL
7-6 in 3 Ot’s, and in another game the Wildcats scored on the last
play to defeat the Tigres of Monterrey, Mexico 6-0 on a 15 yard
pass.
After round robin play, Go In Deep was the #1 seed and was the
only team to receive a bye as this turned out to be key as most
teams ran out of gas in the end. In the Championship game GoIn
deep easily defeated a tired Patriots team 27-7. The Patriots
started the scoring when QB Phoung Nygen connected with April
Fricque on a 20 yard pass for their only score. It was then the
GoIn Deep show as they scored 27 unanswered points. QB Tamara
Nicholes threw for three TD’s and ran for one. She connected with
tournament MVP Jamie Tomasini on two of her three touchdown
passes. This was the second qualifier Goin Deep has won as they
recently won the Houston World Cup Qualifier. In World Cup play
they are undefeated at 7-0.
In the Men's 4Man Division it was All Venom of Dallas who went 4-0
on the day and defeated the Click of Houston 34-6 in the title
game. Venom only gave up 12 points in the tournament
