Lingerie Bowl Returns for a Third Season
Los Angeles (January 10, 2006)
– Having first blissfully blitzed audiences
during its pay-per-view scrimmage in 2004, the
Bodog.com Lingerie Bowl aims to sack the
competition during Super Bowl XL, returning to
the L.A. Memorial Coliseum on February 5 to once
again deliver an alternative, live show to
viewers eager for halftime programming with a
diaphanous difference. The 90-minute sports and
entertainment extravaganza will bring the
excitement to a new level with supermodels
playing full-contact football in lingerie,
celebrity guest quarterbacks, a steamy lingerie
fashion show with top musical performances, and
surprises galore. Lingerie Bowl III is also
sponsored by Oakley and Monster Energy Drink.
“No other Super Bowl-related programming has
been as enthusiastically talked about, or has
generated as much ink, as the Lingerie Bowl,”
stated the event’s creator/executive producer
Mitch Mortaza, president of Horizon Productions.
“This
will
be
a tremendous breakthrough season
that truly fulfills the promise of this event,
giving in-person and pay-per-view audiences the
halftime show they deserve without missing a
minute of the Super Bowl – except, of course,
for its own halftime show, which should be rated
‘G’ for generic, or maybe geriatric!”
“We are excited to take on title sponsorship of
the Bodog.com Lingerie Bowl and we look forward
to a long and prosperous relationship with
Horizon,” says the event’s host, Bodog.com
founder and CEO Calvin Ayre. “With the hot
players plus Dennis, Jenny and the other top
celebrities expected to attend, this game is
sure to be a highlight of Super Bowl Sunday.”
According to Burrelles Media Analysis, the
Lingerie Bowl initially generated 1307 stories,
close to 343 million impressions, for an
estimated advertising value of nearly $7
million. Moreover, major media outlets
speculated in its aftermath that the infamous
Janet Jackson incident was a pre-planned attack,
with the L.A. Times asking, “Who knew the
lengths the NFL would go to sabotage The
Lingerie Bowl?” while NBC posited if “this
‘spontaneity’ was a carefully executed move to
combat...people changing the channel in favor of
The Lingerie Bowl, which itself generated enough
interest to threaten the viewership of the most
watched show in television.”
Lingerie Bowl III may wind up being the most
watched Super Bowl halftime show on television
given its embarrassment of riches, beginning
with the players themselves. Its central
contest takes place between two teams,
determined the week prior on “Garter & Lace
Championship Saturday,” an Eastern final between
the New York Euphoria (quarterbacked by MTV
personality Trishelle Cannatella) and the
Chicago Bliss (led by WWE diva Christy Hemme),
and a Western final between two-time Lingerie
Bowl championship team, the Los Angeles
Temptation (under Playboy’s Miss April 2001
Katie Lohmann), and the Dallas Desire (QB’d
by pop star Willa Ford). Of more than
5,200 players who tried out, an elite 52 were
ultimately chosen, representing the most
beautiful, athletic and fiercely competitive.
While celebrated Chicago Bears defensive lineman
William “The Refrigerator” Perry will
lend his football know-how as a team coach,
Lingerie Bowl III will also benefit from the
presence of another incomparable sports legend,
Dennis Rodman, who serves as Lingerie
Football League Commissioner. With an
entertainment sensibility second-to-none, Rodman
has instituted new rules for the event, among
them: Botox physicians shall be stationed on the
sidelines to ensure that players look their best
at all times; all touchdowns must be accompanied
by an end-zone dance, preferably involving a
pole; and an energy drink bath will be given to
the winning team. “Which would you rather watch
at halftime? Aging rock stars or supermodels
playing full-contact tackle football in
lingerie?” asks the colorful bon vivant. “With
my guidance and rule changes, this
year’s
Lingerie
Bowl
will be
the biggest Super Bowl party in
the world!” Hosting the festivities will be
model/actress Jenny McCarthy and the
Web’s #1 downloaded model Cindy Margolis,
and “American Idol’s” Ryan Starr and
model/actress Tamie Sheffield will be
sideline reporters. Fox Sports announcer
Mike Goldberg will call the play-by-play
action; Sandy Grossman, an Fox/NFL
veteran with 30 years’ experience, will direct
and produce the telecast.
The pay-per-view event runs from 7:30 to 9:00
p.m. ET/PT, kicking off with the biggest
tailgate party in the world in the parking lot
of the Los Angeles Coliseum. The moment the
whistle blows indicating halftime at the Super
Bowl, a fashion show begins featuring the
Lingerie Bowl’s own “Fourth & G” lingerie
line, accompanied by three songs by the event’s
chart-topping musical performers. Immediately
following, the two finalist teams will play, the
winning team honored in a trophy ceremony, all
concluding before the Super Bowl begins its
second half. Fans can get all the info they
