NITELITE FLAG FOOTBALL
Flag Football In The Dark
There is no doubt that FLAG FOOTBALL is fun. The only problem is that
darkness calls the game earlier every day as the Fall progresses. Now when thesun goes
down, a new game of NITELITE FLAG FOOTBALL is just beginning. This new game is played with
an illuminated foam football that can be thrownup to 70 yards. The light source is powered
by two 8-inch chemiluminescent lights that are inserted into the tubes molded into the
sides of the football. This NITELITE FOOTBALL looks like a giant comet as it streaks
across the sky! Players are illuminated with different colored necklaces and bracelets.
Thegoals are also illuminated with 5" round markers. The game is just likeplaying in
the daytime, except it is much more fun because it is dark. Co-edNITELITE FLAG FOOTBALL is
catching on at colleges around the country.FLAG FOOTBALL is a tangent to another nitetime
sport called NITELITE GOLF,which has been played in 64 countries where over 160,000
NITELITE GOLFTournaments have been held. NITELITE Golfballs light up using clear
golfballsand small lightsticks. The course is lit up on the tees, 150-yard markers,
flagpins, cups and the perimeters of the greens. Golfers are illuminated withnecklaces and
bracelets. Nine-hole shotgun scrambles are the format. NITELITEGOLF Tournaments make great
fundraisers for schools, churches, medical and civicgroups as well as hospitals. NITELITE
FLAG FOOTBALL games can also be run asexciting fundraisers. Each touchdown can be worth X
dollars donation fromcorporations and individuals.
The NITELITE FOOTBALL was first demonstrated at Soldier Field, the home ofthe Chicago
Bears, during a half-time show. A riot broke out when the fanscharged onto the field
trying to get the NITELITE FOOTBALLs! The first time you light up a NITELITE FOOTBALL, you
will see what the shouting is all about.

FLAG
FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 27 - SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31ST
New Orleans,LA
FROM:
MARGARET VINTI, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
FLAG FOOTBALL NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIPS
Please accept this correspondence as an official invitation for
your educational institution, military installation, or open team to participate in the
U.S. Army Reserve Flag Football National Championships.
The 22nd Annual National Flag Football Tournament, held at the
University of New Orleans, will ensure that all participants enjoy the competitions and
the hospitality of New Orleans, and will provide awards and souvenirs. This years Nationals will begin with team
check-in on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 and conclude on Sunday, December 31, 2000. In 1999, the Nationals enjoyed spirited
competition of 129 teams comprised of 111 educational institutions and 3 military
installations. Teams from twenty-seven US
states and Mexico were represented by over 2,000 flag football competitors.
We are proud to announce that the U.S. Army Reserve will be the
title sponsor of the 2000 National Championships. In
addition, we are equally excited to announce Uncle Bens as our new presenting
sponsor. The U.S. Army Reserve and Uncle
Bens are currently sponsoring intramural flag football at 200 NIRSA institutions
across the nation. This sponsorship program
will also include eight (8) collegiate Regional Championships which are open to all
schools, based on space availability -- so reserve your spot today! At each of these tournaments, the champion of the
men, women, and co-rec divisions will win an opportunity to participate in the National
Championships to compete against the best of their peers.
This opportunity will include a national travel stipend, (will vary based on
geographic location of school), entry fee, and regional champion hat. See the U.S. Army Reserve Flag Football insert
and contact the Regional Tournament Organizer closest to your institution for more
information. Please encourage students to
participate in all levels of the U.S. Army Reserve Flag Football this year.
We of course, invite all teams to participate in the Nationals
whether you elect to play in the regionals or not. All
campus champions or other eligible teams may participate in the collegiate men, women, and
co-rec divisions. You may send up to three
(3) teams in the men, women, and co-rec divisions (total of 9 teams).
We will also host our seventh year of a mens open division
designed for teams not affiliated with college intramural programs, but of which many
participants are former collegiate players. Fifteen
teams participated in last years open division.
The open division play will be on the weekend, therefore we anticipate a
very large participation.
Individuals can play in both the collegiate and open division, but
understand that schedules will not be altered/changed to accommodate conflicts due to
someone on a team in both divisions.
The accompanying fee schedule,
eligibility requirements, and registration procedures will better explain how your teams
can participate in either the collegiate or the open division during this year's
Nationals. In addition, please take notice of
hotel (NO CAMPUS HOUSING AVAILABLE) and insurance information referred to on accompanying
flyers.
For your information, flag football rulebooks, clinician kits, and
video tapes may be obtained by contacting the NIRSA NATIONAL OFFICE at (541) 766-8211. In addition, we invite you to send your top flag
football officials to the National Championship by contacting STEVE REY, UNIVERSITY OF
SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI at (601) 266-5405. All
officials must qualify through a regional, state, or military tournament. At-large berths will only come available through
the cancellations of invitations to the top twenty officials from the 1999 National
Championships.
We hope your intramural season is a most successful one and once
again, we invite you to send flag football teams to this year's Nationals. If you need any additional information, contact
the Department of Recreation and Intramural Sports at the University of New Orleans at
(504) 280-6357, by fax at (504) 280-6440, or by email at rissa@uno.edu. We look forward to seeing you in December.
