Spanish River High School does it again. High school girls flag
football is alive andwell in South Florida, and Spanish River is still unbeaten. The
SpanishRiver Sharks won their second consecutive championship last night overWilliam T.
Dwyer high's Panthers 19-0.
The game was played at Spanish River'sfootball stadium in Boca
Raton, Florida in front of appx.. 400 fans, familymembers and media observers. The game
was well played by both teams, but the Sharks offense proved toopowerful for the stout
Panthers defense to contain. The first quarter endedscoreless, and at the end of the first
half, Dwyer was trailing only 6-0.But, the Sharks powerful offense could not be stopped in
the second half,and Spanish River defeated Dwyer for the second time this year by a score
of19-0. Spanish River finished the season with a record of 13-0.
Shemesha Wilson (Senior) rushed for 84 yards, including a 21 yard
TD run.Stacey Sinkfield (Junior) caught 3 passes for 68 yards, including a 28
yardtouchdown.
The Sharks defense also dominated for most of the game. The
Panthers had along kickoff return to give them great field position in the fourth
quarter.Quarterback, Katherine Bougie, attempted to lead Dwyer to a late score with 6
completed passes to get them to the 10 yard line of SR. But, Bougiesfourth down pass went
incomplete in the end zone. And so ended theimpressive run for Dwyer High.Spanish River
coach , Steve Staggs, was quite optimistic about continuing towin in the upcoming season.
With 4 starting freshmen, and losing only twoseniors, it is quite understandable why
Spanish River plans to make a run ata Threepeat next season.
The game is played 7 on 7 no contact, with all rushers 5 yards
from the spot of the Ball. First Downs are every 20 yards on the 40 x 80 yard field. Four
10 Minute quarters are used.
A few players will be selected to play for team USA in Mexico
