EJFL Senior Flag Football League Week 2 Results
ELKO, NV - The newly formed EJFL Senior Flag Football League completed its second week of play this Thursday and so far the feedback from children and parents has been positive.
"This is great for the kids to have something to do and for us to be able to come watch," said Andrew Erickson, Sparqs player Alex Erickson's dad. "Its a lot of fun."
"I like it because everyone's not just playing the same position, we all get to rotate," said Blaze player Jordan Walthers. "Plus its fun to get to play football with all of my friends from school."
The league was started by Wolfpack coach Brent Lange, Sparqs coach Mark Morfin, Outlaws coach Si Thomas and Blaze coach "Sarge" Sargent with two main goals in mind.
First, they wanted to bridge the summertime sports gap between baseball and fall football with something fun for the children. Second, they wanted to give players a place to develop skills, especially passing and receiving, for the next levels of junior league and high school football.
Even the girls are getting into the action as Sparqs player Mya Morfin is learning the game of football with her big brother Seth.
"I'm glad I joined," she said. "I was nervous at first, but it has been fun. Flag football isn't just a game for boys, more girls should join next year."
The rules for this six-person league focus on the development of players. For example, there are rotation rules so all players get a chance to play skill positions. Also, the game is called by players in the huddle as coaches are prohibited from calling plays. Plus, each team has two to three games per week, instead of the traditional one game per week in tackle.
Games are played Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m. at Stout Field through July 22.
