Buenos Aires, Argentina
24 de julio de 2004 -
Los Pretorianos y Piratas
consiguen su segundo triunfo
Luego
de la disputa de la
segunda semana de la
temporada 2004 de la
Liga Argentina de
Flag-Football,
organizada por la
Asociación Argentina
de Football Americano
(AAFA), un par de
equipos son los únicos
con dos triunfos en su
haber. En una jornada
de agradable
temperatura y sobre
una cancha algo
embarrada por las
lluvias del día
anterior, los
Pretorianos vencieron a
los Dragones 25-6,
mientras que los
Piratas doblegaron a
los Pumas, que jugaron
sus primer partido, con
un ajustado 6-0. En
otros juegos,
disputados ayer, los
Jaguares también
debutaron con un
triunfo 7-6 sobre los
Demonios Negros y los
Huracanes aprovecharon
la inexperiencia de
los novatos Delfines
para derrotarlos 37-0.
Los Mercenarios y los
Camaleones tuvieron
fecha libre.
Así, hay
cuatro equipos
invictos, y las posiciones
están encabezadas por
los Pretorianos y los
Piratas (2-0),
seguidos por los
Camaleones y Jaguares
(1-0); Mercenarios y
Pumas (0-1); y
Demonios y Delfines
(0-2).

Todos
los partidos de la
temporada 2004, novena
en la historia de la
AAFA, se disputan en
el terreno de juego
con el que ésta cuenta con
exclusividad en el
campo de deportes del
Dámaso Centeno,
situado en Zufriategui
5000 (y Av.
Constituyentes), Villa
Martelli, provincia de
Buenos Aires.
El Flag-Football es un
deporte que contiene
absolutamente todos
los aspectos tácticos,
estratégicos y de
juego en equipo que
caracteriza al
Football Americano
equipado. Sin embargo,
se diferencia en que la
violencia de los
golpes más duros está
restringida. Como no
se usan cascos ni
protecciones, el
avance de un rival debe
detenerse mediante la
acción de quitar uno
de los dos banderines
que todo jugador posee
adheridos a un
cinturón especial, en
una acción que
equivale al tacleo del
Football Americano de
contacto. En
definitiva, lo demás
continúa igual, con
bloqueos, juego
intenso y, por sobre
todo, muy buena
intención por parte de
quienes lo practican.

Mexico Women back on Top.
This years has been a disappointing year for the Mexican women
who's streak of championships came to an end. Six Straight College
National Championship, and Four Straight World Cup
championships ended this past year for Team Mexico.
The Mexican Women have been extremely dominate in the sport and
came to Canada locked and loaded and on a mission to prove to the
World they are #1.There closest game was in the quarterfinals when
they beat World Cup Champs Fleur De Lys of Montreal by 10 points
26-16 The Team was led by veteran QB, who was unstoppable at 38
years old.

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu,Quebec-CANADIEN CHALLENGE-
Team USA struggled in Canada’s 7Man No Contact game, losing 2 of 3
exhibition games to Canada’s All Star teams (Red & White). The
Game was played on a non traditional flag football field, 55 wide
yard fields with 20 yard end zones, which made the defense
nonexistent. The Bigger field makes teams play man to man, its
almost soccer and not football, stated “Team USA’s Captain Jim
Wilson”. The Canadians are loaded with Talent, especially at the
QB position where Spartans Rob Houston and Canadiens Rob Moore
take a 20 yard drop back, taking the rusher out of the game. These
two quarterbacks rarely threw incompletions and very rarely were
their drives stopped. Mr. Houston was the Canadian QB who led Team
Canada to a World Cup Victory this past year in the Dominican
Republic over team USA 12-8 in 9Man for there first World Cup
Title.
In the 7Man Title game, Canada with drew its all star teams from
the competition and the best two teams played for the title. In
the Title game it’s was the home town Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
Maroons who defeated Team USA 22-21 in a rematch of last years
title game. The Maroons took a commanding 14-0 lead, as there
defense stepped it up stopping the Americans on two drives. The
Maroons scored on the last play of the half, when QB Marc Andre
Toujas hit Cooler on an amazing diving catch in the back of the
end zone.
The second half was all the Americans, as on the opening kickoff
the Maroons pitched the ball into the hands of Team USA’s Rolando
Escobedo(scatbacks) giving them the ball on the 20 yard line.
Quarterback Danni Talamantez (Scatbacks) threw a 15 yard Touch
down pass to Gilberto Garcia(Scatbacks) brought the score to 14-6.
The Maroons marched down and scored when QB Andre Toujas ran it in
from 10 yards out for the Maroons final score making it 21-6.
Talmantez brought team USA right back to the end zone when he
connected with Claude Lockhart on 60 yard bomb. Lockhart made an
amazing catch for the score. Not only was the catch amazing, but
lockhart was the oldest player of the tournament at 48 years old
as this brought the score to 21-12. The Americans defense stepped
it up as Matt Kling came up with a big interception in the end
zone and brought it out to the 15 where QB Dani Talamantez
engineered the Team all the way to the end zone where he connected
with James Mayo on a 15 yard jump ball to the big man from
Clinton, MD (Cutters) to make the score 21-18. On the Two point
convert, on an Option pass Jim Zimolka, hit Team USA’s Captain Jim
Wilson in the end zone for 2 points to bring the score 21-20. With
only five plays remaining, the USA strategy was to let the Maroons
score, stop the extra point and have four plays to tie it, but
they caught onto the strategy and kneeled at the one yard line to
end the game.
In the Women’s A Div final, Mexico dominated the field of 9 by
beating up on its competition. They went 5-0 and its closest game
was the championship where they easily defeated Canada’s best
team, the Shock of Toronto 24-0. Mexico was led by veterans
Maritza Zamora, Mercedes Ramirez, Rebeca Corchado, and 16 year old
sensation Rebecca Ocana. Team Mexico was coached by Julio Ocana,
Gerado Cota, and Fernando Olvera.
The 9Man Exhibition game was played Sat at 6pm as a good crowd of
on lookers slowly came in to watch the game only seen once a year
in Canada. Team USA brought 30 players to the match as the big
boys were eager for the contact portion after playing four games
of no contact. The Americans were quarterbacked by Norm Plamodean
of Pawtucket RI. He led the team to two quick scores, a 30 yard
touch down grab by Team Captain Jim Wilson, and an 80 Yard Touch
down bomb to Matt Kling who lateral to Mike Hawff to take a
commanding 13-0 led into the half. The Canadians struggled on
offense, as they had eight miss-snaps in the game. The Canadians
lone score game late in the game when Delroy George (Toronto Jets)
picked off a pass at the linebacker position and ran it back 30
yards for Canada’s only score and capped the scoring at 13-6.
This year the USA sent five teams to the tournament. Three women’s
teams and two men’s Teams. For the Women, the Gators of
Loxahatchee, FL and the Jaguars of Jacksonville,FL traveled over
1000 miles to play in the Junior Division, while the Northeasterns
of NYC also took part in the Event. In the A division, Team USA
competed. For the Men, Team USA took the skill position players
for the A Div while the Big Boys played in the B Div.
Wacky Rules-
55x 110 yard field with 20 yard Endzones-
Goal Posts are in front of endzone(like 1950’s)

Run inbetween two defenders, play is dead.

When time runs out, you have five plays(no time)
Extra Points are called-CONVERTS
Beer can be sold at the Tournament (and is twice as strong as USA
