In the Women's collegiate division, its the first time in six years a Mexican team has not registered and taken the title south of the border. This leaves the title up for grabs for a usa team to finally win the crown, but don't be surprised if you see a last second registration from the Mexicans which are notorious for this, there is a possibilty three teams from mexico city will drive up on a coach(36 hours)
like last year. One of those teams is Six time defending champ Aguilas Blancas.

Playing football in the Snow, brought a whole new meaning this past weekend as 40 teams from all over the Northeast including Canada and England played through Blizzard conditions on both days. The Snow started to fall Friday evening, then turned to Sleet and Rain Saturday afternoon, then back to snow on Sunday with Wind gusts up to 30 miles an hour. The Amazing part was all but two registered teams made it to Plymouth as the entire east coast was hit by the storm. The longest trip for the USA teams was a tie between the PA and MD teams, from Canada it was Team From Toronto that made the trek but they were out down in mileage by the English who flew in just before the storm hit.
The Friday night captains meeting was packed with over 100 players and 20 beautiful FlagMag Girls as teams picked there place on the bracket. On Saturday morning the games began, and several teams were late as the driving conditions were treacherous. Around noon time the snow turned to sleet and rain making the conditions absolutely horrible. Saturday night FlagMag held its Christmas Party at Rip Tide were all 20 FlagMag girls competed for Miss FlagMag Boston,MA-2003.
The party was rocking as 200 players made it to the event. FlagMag girls mixed and mingled then paraded in three different sets of clothing- Causal, Bikini, and club wear in front of excited flag football players . The evening ended when the girls were auctioned off on dates.
On Sunday conditions got worse as the snow started to pile up, and the wind klicked in. The games became interesting in the end as in the 8Man Gold Division, it was the USA vs Canada in a grudge match as the Outkast of New Bedford,MA outlasted the Xmen of Toronto,Canada 6-0 in the 3rd overtime. Impressive for the Canadiens who only play 7man touch .

3rd Annual New Hampshire Turkey Bowl

Thursday
4Man No Contact
FlagMag.com held its 3rd Annual New Hampshire Turkey Bowl in Manchester with five teams participating for what is seen as a traditional, fun event. All the teams that participated are from the New Hampshire State and know each other through either playing in the same league over the years or playing at high school together. We were graced with the presence of the Lancers old boys that participated last year, Obelix (Canada) Super Heroes, Rage both from the BMFFL and the FlagMag team. The games were quite but not so competitive as most teams were trying to maintain the thanksgiving spirit and had their minds set on watching football after being fully fed with turkey and the rest. Overall the tournament was successful with all the teams playing a reasonable amount of games and entertaining each other on a nice, sunny day made for flag football, I hope it was worthwhile.

Boston,MA-BMFFL Fall Championships

BMFFL Championship Story

As predicted the championship was special the games were exciting, full of action some teams left winners and the rest losers but at least I can say all the teams played well and gave it their best shot. There wasn’t a lot between the finalist as teams lost by either a score or just a mere point. The primary game between the Alliance, NH and Chiccone Outlaws, Providence was all about two half’s. The Alliance set the pace of the game in the 1st half scoring three un-replied TD's clearly outsmarting their opponents, in the 2nd half the cards were turned around and Tony Sanders, Charlie Holiday and Anthony Coma started to get a nice rhythm going and scored three TD’s after Alliance had scored their fourth TD and were up by 27 – 21. The game was still close and both teams were not well into the game, the Alliance could have easily put the game away but started slipping and the Outlaws were gaining more confidence with little time left in the game. The Alliance needed to obtain a first down on a running clock to end the game which they did, both teams congratulated each other and the undefeated Alliance win their first BMFFL title, the Outlaws I think are a good family unit and thanks to Mr. Chiccone have developed into a good side. Yes the Alliance are the 2003 BMFFL champions, congratulations good offensive line work to contain a huge defensive threat, Spaz and Matt Kling scored great TD’s but Spaz scored the best, with a long deep post diving catch for the first TD of the game. The first half was all about Alliance with the OL completely dominating the interior giving the receivers the opportunity to run their routes and the QB Arty Hazzard to deliver some exceptional ranged passes. Overall the game was good and played in an enthusiastic manner that was always expected.

Congratulations to the Assassins, Washington Tap, and Damiens for winning the B, C and D 8Man division titles, from the parts of the games I observed you guys played extremely well and were all very disciplined. The runners up teams, well what can I say you lost by very little which indicates that the position you got to was deservedly achieved, keep up the good work and maybe next year will be the champion.

In the 4man A Div Mr Steer remain the only unbeaten team in the league defeating the Hogwild  The Excite team won the B division in the best out of three with receiver Mike playing really well. Finally Guffy that worked extremely well to improve as one of the new teams were beaten by Knappy Trenches whom sustained an injury in the championship but as a handicap managed to rally some good plays together and sustain pressure from their opposition. Thanks for playing in the BMFFL 2003 season and we all hope to see you guys playing again soon. Watch out for upcoming tournaments and good luck to everybody.

interceptions, QB Yehiel Horowitz made the difference on offense, throwing
four TD passes, including two to Chaim Pearl.

threw for eight touchdowns, and captain Yoel Herman caught two TD passes and
recorded two sacks on the defensive side of the field.

Ft lauderdale,FL-World Cup Qualifier

The IFFF Regional qualifier that took place this past weekend in Ft Lauderdale lived up to its expectations. With so far the best talent at any of our events and an extremely positive youth and female sector we can claim it to be a very successful tournament so far. Teams such as the Florida Stingrays, Alliance, NH, Raw Talent, The Gators and ELY M both adults and youth have been to our World Cup and this showed at the qualifier. In the Youth section Ely M dominated, although all the other teams possessed good talent and were entertaining. The women's section in both 7Man and 4Man were clearly won by the Florida Stingrays the rest of the teams did put up a fight but couldn't compete against a well drilled outfit. The Stingrays used this tournament as a warm up for the Boston event where much stronger Canadian competition will be present. In the 7man men's sector the Alliance from NH a known 8Man team surprised the Florida talent that are renown for playing the 7Man category by reaching the finals and then beating Ely M 7-6 in a very close encounter. The biggest sector was the 4Man that was divided into an A/B category. Most of the games were extremely close in the A Div playoffs with the Alliance team eased out by finalist Legion of Doom, FL that only lost by a score in the finals to In the Zone led by Team USA receiver Angel. In the B Division playoffs the Young Guns did really well to beat the talent in their sector and came out winners beating X rated 26 -12. In summary the talent was very good, the weather was a beauty, the youth were exciting and added value to the qualifier so we will give this event an A+.

Boston, MA-Boston Metro League Playoffs
This past weekend the BMFFL final playoff games took place in both NH and MA with all the top teams in both the 8man and 4man division playing for the a spot in the finals and in some cases semi-finals. In Manchester, NH the 4man division was what was anticipated, the Castros playing the league unbeaten Mr. Steer for the NH title, although there was the expectancy of the Muddawgs or Outbackers causing a bit of an upset. In the long run the Castros played like veterans of the game and tried extremely hard to defend their position as top dog in NH. Mr. Steer the new blood have now emerged as top dog, 34 games unbeaten and have been playing extremely well this season led by Team USA captain Jim Wilson. The Muddawgs, Outbackers and Nasty Boys all put on a pretty good show but in the end were not focused enough to beat either the Castros or Mr. Steer but we all know they will come back next year firing on all cylinders. In the 4man B division Excite had to lose twice against a strong and well improved Suspects team, Glen and his crew lost the first game but came back strong to win the second and book a spot in the finals. Finally, the NH C game between the Rams and Guffy had to go the full two games with a mature Guffy side narrowly beating the newcomers Rams to become the NH C division winners. In summary Mr. Steer have looked strong all season, the Muddawgs have become a exceptionally good A team , the Suspects, Wildcats and of course Excite should all be playing A div football next year; the Rams did well for a first time and will definitely be a team to watch next year.

In Brockton, MA two of the strongest contenders for the 8man title Outcast and Outlaws slugged it out in what was reported to be the game of the season so far. This rivalry has always been the one to set of the fireworks as these two teams are packed with power, skill, speed, technique and finesse. In a remarkable game of power and consistent flair both teams matched each other for most part of the game. Remember the Outcast have already beaten the Outlaws once this season, the Outlaws were out to revenge that defeat, the Outcast has other plans and in an action packed first half led by13-7. Charlie Holiday during the interval rallied his teammates and they came out firing all guns to tie the game. The Outcast once again matched them for skill, speed and power. Then QB Holiday threw a nice long pass to one of his receivers to tie the game. Overtime, the game went into overtime and the Outlaws beat the Outcast and will meet the Alliance in the BMFFL championship.

At Moaxley Park, MA it was the same kind of story top team the Generals that departed with key players that joined the up with Alliance leaving Al Menino with a young, new side that has taken this season to jell and play as a team. The Alliance versus The Generals has got cracker written all over it, especially with old boys Spaz, Norm, the Goodhart bothers all crossing over. Anyway reports from observers claimed an exciting game with two teams that are quite technical, have speed, skill and talent in abundance. The Generals matched the Alliance in all departments with the Generals leading 7-6 for a huge part of the game. It looked like the Generals had the Alliance in a corner and bam out of nowhere Arty Hazzard delivers a beauty to Gabe Boatwright for a TD in the last seconds of the game. The pass becomes the winning pass for Alliance booking them a place in the finals against the team on a high – Chiccone Outlaws, the only team to beat Alliance twice this season. Alliance has not been beaten in league play yet, in tournaments yes but not in league play. The final will be good to see, it is important that both teams watch their sidelines and discipline will be key, the rest of the attributes both teams possess, it will be another cracking game of flag football.

Flag Football in Iraq?  Is this possible? While it may not be your traditional Sonic Flags, they are currently using socks for Flags, there are 30 USA Military men playing 4on4 in the middle of the Iraqi desert. They are there to train the New Iraqi army. Games are played on Fridays which is the day off, as Fridays are holy days in the Middle east. November is a holy month, Ramadan is observed, and for this many people are on Vacation. In December everyone will return with close to 100 men playing.

Pensacola, FL

This weekend 53 teams will come to Pensacola, Florida vying for the West Florida Regional Flag Football Championships. 33 men’s teams, 10 women’s and 10 co-rec teams will form the toughest regional competition in the country. The West Florida tournament annually serves notice as to who the contenders will be in New Orleans.

This year, the top teams are who’s who among the collegiate rankings”

  • Southern Baton Rouge Soldiers (defending Nat. champs)

  • GA Southern University Scandals (2003 UF Swamp Bowl Champs)
  • Troy State University
  • Pensacola Junior College
  • North Florida "Blitz"
  • Nunez CC "Pelicans"

  • UNC-Charlotte "Bring the Ruckus"

Who will win???

The women's team brings the dominant American women's team Southern University - Baton Rouge "Dream Team" to defend their last two West Florida championships. Strong competition should be provided by Troy State and Florida A & M University.

In the Co-rec division, this tournament is up for grabs.  The two-time defending West Florida Regional Champs and National Champs are taking this weekend off.  The favorites would be the two teams from La. Monroe, Ga Southern, and GaState University.

Good luck to everyone in Pensacola!

Nov 2nd-2003
Brockton, MA- USFTL States
Round Robin- 3 Game Min

The Chiccone Outlaws have been crowned the USFTL MA States champions after beating the Alibrandes by 7-0. The tournament was a good sized event with teams from the BMFFL that didn't think it was necessary to take a week off participating in the tournament as warm-ups for the playoffs. The games were all extremely competitive with huge amounts of talented athletes from all the teams showing what they are really made of. The Chiccone Outlaws had looked strong from the start beating a strong Alliance team led by veteran players Spaz, Norm, Arty Hazard & co. The Alibrandes team out from another league came to compete against some of the best teams that play in the BMFFL and lost to Alliance in an action packed game. The event was dominated mainly by the big three which were the Alliance; Chiccone Outlaws, and the Alibrandis from Sommerville although the Hitsquad gave both teams a run for their money. The event also saw the league unbeaten Alliance team lose two games in one day, most likely the first time it has happened in a long time. Jim Zimolka and the English players that are here learning the program also had fun by playing in a combine team in the lower sector to gain 8man experience. As far as players that outperformed the rest, there was a nice competitive battle between Coma and Gabe Boatwright, Spaz was playing exceptionally well as receiver and D-line and so was Tommy Wilson at TE and D-line. The two most valuable players on the day could not be pulled apart and they both had different qualities that they added to the game on Sunday. No 21 Tony Sanders and the Chiccone Outlaws QB Charlie Holiday were the two MVP's on the day. The Outlaws have won their first tournament in a while and are fired up and looking good in the league also, the Generals and the Outcast both rested this past weekend and should be feeling fresh for the playoffs this coming Sunday. The Alliance team, well, they lost two games to the same team only by a shade and we all know they have talent in all departments to upset any of the big three already mentioned. Therefore, this is my summary, Outlaws just won & on a high (v.good), Generals took a rest and came to watch their opposition (v.good), Outcast also resting and should be ready (v.good) Alliance been beaten twice and will come out fighting to restore their pride and position in the League (good)

The New Hampshire States tournament offered us excitement, joy, and some amazing flag football games this past weekend in Manchester. The tournament designed to accommodate teams from the BMFFL, LYFFL, MYFFL and teams that just come out once a year produced an astounding playing environment for all to see. With the adults starting early in the morning and the kids coming in later the crowd gradually grew to over 200 people that were watching, cheering and relaxing in the sunny Manchester weather.

The Youth City and State Championship - The Youth section was great to watch with the kids aged between 6 - 12 yrs old all playing their hearts out in front of what they would see as a huge crowd of spectators. All the games were full of excitement with the parents and the adult players all cheering the kids on. In the 6-8 yrs old Londonderry championship game the Cowboys beat the 49ers to advance to play the the Manchester Bills who had beaten the Dolphins to obtain their State championship spot. The State championship game for the 6-8 yr olds was fascinating to watch, the kids were so excited, full of enthusiasm and adrenalin that was a definitely captivating. The Cowboys from Londonderry being in their second year beat a very well coached Bills team by 12 - 6 to become the first NH Youth State champion. In the 9-12 yr old category the older kids also showed that they were capable of putting on a good show and the Londonderry Titans beat the league undefeated Bucs by 28 - 0 to reach the City final, only to be beaten by a narrow 6-0 by once again an experienced well coached Packers led by two year finalist Coach Bowen. Manchester sector that had only two 9-12 yr old teams and had competed against each other for the past six weeks proudly competed for the City honors with the Patriots running away with the game with a blistering 34-0 against the Cowboys. Coach Bowen (Packers) who had a taste of what it is like to play in a final, well finally received his reward for all his hard work and missing out last year to become the current NH State Champion Youth (9-12yr old).

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

The IFFF visited the Dominican Republic for the second time this year to finalize preparations for the 5th Annual World Cup of Flag Football that takes place in February 2004. The event is gradually coming closer and has been welcomed by senior dignitaries in Puerto Plata. Governor Ginette Bournigal de Jimenez of the Providence of Puerto Plata has already promised to invite the President of the Dominican Republic to bless the event and is extremely excited at the prospects of hosting the biggest flag football gathering in the world. They are relishing at the opportunity to host a sporting event that runs alongside there carnival structured Independence Day celebrations which of course will create a great atmosphere for the players and the people of Puerto Plata. The entire sporting extravaganza will be surrounded by colorful parades, dancing and partying of which we intend to encourage being part of our event. Both international and the home based teams are advised to wear appropriate uniforms at the opening ceremony of the World Cup simply for media and organizational reasons as the aim would be making the event more prestigious. Unlike last year we had teams in not quite the right standard uniforms this year all teams should make an effort to look like a high-quality unit. Also the Open invitational shall start on Friday afternoon rather than on Saturday due to the amount of teams that have qualified this year, therefore it is mandatory that all teams be present in Puerto Plata from Thursday 26th. Finally, the time we are hosting the event is renowned as peak season for vacation groups from all over the world and the host hotel shall be reserving the rooms till the 10th of November. The IFFF is very excited at the progress made so far and with 500 people already booked with Target Sport adventures (the official travel agent for the event) illustrates good intentions. We are most definitely trying to persuade teams to place a deposit with Target Sport before the 10th of Nov, making the process easier and more feasible to manage.

AFI kicks off record-shattering season

American Football in Israel began its 15th season Friday at a sun-drenched
Kraft Stadium in Jerusalem. With 18 games scheduled for the first weekend,
most of the 53 teams in the league had their first opportunity to prove
their mettle on one of the two fields set up at the stadium.

The AFI has a record 53 teams for the 2003-04 season, an increase of almost
50% from the previous season, which itself was a record for the league.
League coordinator Jay L. Abramoff said that the AFI organizers were pleased
to welcome so many teams into the league this year, and after a month and a
half of preparations, included work on the field itself, he was happy to
actually see the teams playing.

"The league has grown every year, and this year, to accommodate all 53 teams
and finish the season on time, we hope to play AFI games on other fields,"
he said. "We have been working hard to get everything ready for the new
season."

While the league does not play on Shabbat, it is discussing scheduling games
in Ma'ale Adumim on Saturday nights and possibly Mevasseret Zion on Fridays.

One of the highlights of kickoff weekend was the AFI debut of the team
sponsored by the satellite channel METV, which broadcasts NFL games in
Israel The team is made up of players from the Tel Aviv area who also play
in the METV-sponsored Tel Aviv Flag Football Club. METV's appearance was
spoiled by Fairmount Funding, which won 27-18, in what was the first
competitive American football game for most of the METV players. METV team
captain Hanan Stern said that it was a great experience for his team.

"Although some players on the team have spent time in the US, most of us did
not grow up playing American football, and we truly enjoyed our first-ever
competitive game. We look forward to the challenge of playing in the AFI,
and before the season is over, we are going to surprise some teams," he
said.

No AFI weekend would be complete without at least one major upset, and it
came late Saturday night when Chaim's Boys shocked Amerifone, led by AFI
veteran Yaacov Jacknis, 26-21.

La,CA-World Cup Qualifier
For the first time in the history of the IFFF regional qualifiers Jim Dutra former QB for Team USA in 2000, 01 and 02 came head to head with Pat Connolly current Team USA QB (Bahamas 2003). Jim Dutra one of the loyal players to the IFFF and World Cup of flag football has traveled to Mexico on three occasions to assist Jim Zimolka with the promotion of the sport and also represent his country. In Freeport, Bahamas Jim Dutra was commended with a special award for recognition for participating in all four annual World Cup events. However, with his status as one of the most experienced QB’s in the game of flag football Jim Dutra was not selected to play for Team USA because he did not meet the requirement which is to travel two countries. Pat Connolly led the Team USA offence in the Bahamas to their 4th successive World Championship and already traveled to both France and Canada to help the IFFF promote the game. The LA regional final was always going to be a cracker all the teams were packed with talent and have a core understanding of the 8on8 game. The Swarm led by Jim Dutra however, thrashed Pat Connolly’s Taco surf 35-6 which does not justify a hard fought game. These teams participated in the last World Cup event in Freeport and have booked their spot to play in the World Cup event that is coming up in February 2004 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, also present at the last World Cup was highly rated Cobras from Vista, CA. Most of the guys that participated in this event are ambassadors to the sport and have traveled with Flagmag/IFFF to help develop the programs of affiliated members such as Mexico, Venezuela, France etc showing that there is a lot of interest coming from the West Coast market.

Baton Rouge,LA-World Cup Qualifier

The LSU assisted the IFFF to host a very successful World Cup regional qualifier tournament this past weekend in Baton Rouge, LA. In total we had 15 teams participate in both the 7man and 4man categories respectively with the 7man sector showing interesting potential. The 7man was divided into the Gold and Silver division, the top four teams attaining the qualification status to play in the 5th World Cup of flag football in the Dominican Republic. The team of the moment has got to be the Untouchables that seem to be dominating the 7man. Coming off winning the 7man tournament in Dallas they traveled to Baton Rouge to beat the second best team Widespread by 41 – 12. Team Untouchable is basically sending out a warning to all the 7man teams across the USA that they are waiting to play all in the Dominican Republic in February 2004. In the Silver division the final was fought by two local teams, the Darealists took the honors beating the Holla in a close game (18-14). In the 4man category Supreme thrashed the GMF’s both from Baton Rouge by 20 -7, both teams qualify for the World Cup also and would most likely want to meet each other again with different reasons. The most remarkable part of the qualifier was the fact that it was held at the LSU that provided staff, very nice fields and their great organizational skills to make it all happen.

Boston,MA-BMFFL Playoffs

The playoffs are creeping up faster than the players of the BMFFL would have expected and this week in Manchester the strong teams dominated the play by crushing anyone in their sights. In the 4man category we witnessed six shut out games as some teams took a pasting, would not like to mention their names as it will not be necessary to demoralize the teams. Teams such as the Castros, Mr. Steer, The Suspects, Muddawgs and the Wildcats won all their games while the Hammerheads, Outbackers, Gmen and Underdawgs all had a pretty bad Sunday. From an outsiders perspective the games were quite entertaining and illustrated that the big names are getting stronger as the playoffs approach. The lower order teams such as the Nasty Boys, Rams and Razorbacks seem to be improving and you never know may surprise one or two group leaders. The league also saw many forfeits this weekend which of course would not really be tolerated and the necessary measures will be undertaken to ensure such activities will not carry on. The Excite will know not to go out drinking too heavy before their games as they nearly got beat by the Underdawgs, if not for the Excite’s long pass game that would have been one hell of a story.

The playoff picture for the 4man in Boston is also looking good; it is difficult to actually write much on this sector mainly because we don’t have anyone willing to report the activities that happen there. However, the CWD and Hogwild are still in the position they deserve to be in and the B div 2nd half team have taken pole position at the expense of 5 angry men losing to happy hour that are all chasing the bunch.

The 8man picture took a twist although not really that visible but the Generals lost their first game, this does not necessarily mean much as they have always played very well in the playoffs. The Outlaws, Alliance, Mill City Militia and the Legion of Doom (LOD) are the only 8man teams with 100% records. That once again can be viewed as just a statistic or as someone making a point to the rest of the league – that come playoff time they are not looking to lay low. Murphy’s Law, Bryans Place and the Untouchables have also been impressive over the past few weeks; the Untouchables did quite well, playing a close encounter with the Alliance that has so far beaten all in sight. The most important advice that can be given at a time like this for all the lower positioned teams to keep working hard as the results are showing improvement and very close games. The top teams cannot afford to slip up now that they have achieved so much; if they do the lower teams will be quite willing to take advantage

NYC, NY-5Man NFL Youth Tournament

Fifty three youth teams participated in the NFL's 5Man  No Contact  North East Regional Tournament. In the Championship game of the 12-14 year old division the Bronx Jets defeated the DAC Giants 13-6 for the Title. The Jets went up 13-0 on two quick td's, a 40 yard Touch Down scant by Jay Rosado and a 40 yard bomb by Tony Medina, gave the Jets all the scoring they would need. The Dac Giants made a late comeback attempt, when Brian Durkin, shaked and baked his way to the end zone 30 yards avoiding three Jets defender to bring the score 13-6.The Giants had a chance to tie it, but the Jets defense held them in the final seconds to preserve the win and the free trip to Disney,
In the 9-11 year old division, the Jets of Heightown, NJ Edged out the Falcons 14-7 for the crown. The Falcons started the scoring off Hunter Ricks dashed 30 yards to pay dirt, the extra point try gave the Falcons a 7-0 led. The Jets bounced right back on a 20 yard run by John INdrikordic to bring the score to 7-6 at the half. In the second half the Jets QB Bryan Connaughton connected with Mathew Braun on a 20 yard td strike for the game winning score. The Falcons had a  chance on the last drive to tie the game,
but the Jets defense held on to preserve the win.

Boston,MA-BMFFL Week 7 Results

The BMFFL is gradually reaching its climax, a interlude when all the weak are withered away and all the strong stay on to compete for the glory. This past weekend again illustrated that you cannot be on top forever, although Legion of Doom and Alliance in 8man and Mr. Steer in 4man would surely have something to say about that, as they are still unbeaten as we head to the play-offs. In the Manchester sector there were some amazing games such as the Castros vs. the upcoming Wildcats, Mr. Steer vs. The Suspects and most surprisingly were the Outbackers that played 4man with only three guys to win one of their games 47 -13, once again will not mention who that happened to, but they will have to work on their defense. Everyone knows how fired up players can be in the playoffs and to a certain extent should be allowed to show emotion, however it is essential that they show emotion only and not aggress the referees or opposition. The penalty will be strictly implemented without hesitation and those who decide to be indiscipline will suffer the consequences. Anyway let’s get back to the league, the Alliance without Jimmy Wilson and Arty Hazard still played extremely well beating newcomers Muddas (the team that beat them in the Mud Bowl). There has to be a mention for the young linebacker no.7 Dan Summerlin  filling in for Jimmy Wilson, one TD, three sacks and an interception – voted man of the match by his teammates, Jimmy Wilson better watch your back. The Legion of Doom are still unbeaten and looking good for the playoffs sending a warning out to the rest. The Untouchables and Generals got back on track from their loss last week with a comfortable win over the Hitsquad and Shamrocks respectively. Mill City lost their 100% record and so did the Outlaws that lost to the Outcast by one, why didn’t they just kick a an extra point to tie and go into OT. Most of the teams will be participating in the states tournament on the 1st/2nd of Nov with a huge response coming through in the last two weeks. All the same, the league will not tolerate any misbehavior from any players in the playoffs as most of the teams will be clearly banned from participating in any upcoming tournaments.

Manchester – Players of the week

No 7 Dan Summerlin – Jimmy Wilson’s replacement one TD, three sacks and an interception,

Manchester – Team of the week

The Outbackers – it’s not easy to play with only three guys and still win comfortably

Baton Rouge,LA-World Cup Qualifier

LSU will this weekend play host to the Baton Rouge IFFF World Cup of flag football regional qualifier. The tournament shows immense potential as we have a mixture of local teams and participants that are flying in to book a place at the World Cup event in Puerto Plata next year. The qualifier boost high competition in the 7man category with a record highest total of 7man teams so far at any of our qualifiers unlike the dominant 8man and 4man categories. An indication that at the actual World Cup event we should witness a bigger and more competitive 7man section. Most of the teams will qualify for the World Cup of which over 80 strong teams have already gone through the process.  The next stop for the IFFF is Flint which is new and then the big one at Ft Lauderdale; teams have already started to enquire.

Los Angeles – Regional Qualifier

The West Coast starts a series of IFFF World Cup of flag football regional qualifiers in Los Angeles, CA this weekend. This is the third year the IFFF has been to this market and all qualifiers have been successful. The LA flag football market like any other is strong in particular categories, in this scenario 4man is the stronger sector. At the last World Cup event in the Bahamas, LA was represented by three teams that performed very well.

Tampa, FL ,World Cup Qualifier

The smallest regional qualifier we have had so far this year with five 4man teams in the men’s division and four 4man female teams participating for a spot to play in the Dominican Republic. It is quite extraordinary as there are 800 4man teams located in and around the Tampa area and only six teams from that area participated in the ticket tournament to the World Cup of Flag Football event penciled for the 26th – 29th of February 2004. Nevertheless, the prizes for the qualified teams will all be given regardless of the size of the tournament making the competition intense for the remaining spots that will be decided at Fort Lauderdale. The Fort Lauderdale’s regional qualifier is already in demand with players enquiring about the tournament now with a month to go. Last year it was one of the biggest qualifiers and the team that won the female (A) division was crowned the women’s 7on7 invitational championship. All the teams that are coming to the Fort Lauderdale event will be fighting for the rest of the spots available and should start registering now. Alliance from New Hampshire has already registered for the Ft lauderdale,FL tournament, playing 4man and 8Man.

Ottawa, Ontario-Canada-Touch Nationals-76 Teams

The 3-day Canadian Touch Football Nationals kick-off on the 10th of October 2003 in Ottawa, Canada. This competition is seen as the largest and most organized touch football event and gathering of talented players in the country (may be a selection process for the World Cup). The event known as the "Tournament of Champions" will be a great opportunity for the best teams to compete against each other and the also all the players that participated in the World Cup of flag football, Freeport Bahamas to recall on the good times on and off the fields. However, with the Canadian men losing to the Mexican’s in the semi-finals and the women losing out to the crown at the hands of the defending champs (Mexico women), is the fact that the Canadians play touch rather the flag becoming a disadvantage. Canada are the number two team in the world in terms of tackle and non-tackle football and with a huge base of talent at hand makes you think as to whether they need to expand on the flag football tournament that was held in Quebec earlier on in the year. The idea would surely be to run more than one flag football tournament that gives the players that will participate in the World Cup the opportunity to prepare for the different style of play. Canada are a major threat to the USA without a shadow of doubt, but will also have to understand that the other countries are developing fast and would love to increase more pain on what the Mexicans have already started. At this moment we can assume that the entire Canadian team are all fired up and ready to beat Mexico and meet the USA in the final. Well, you guys will just have to wait for another four months but beforehand will entertain Ottawa with their skills and flair this weekend.

Boston, MA-Boston Metro Flag Football League- Week 5

As playoff time approaches rapidly, there are many teams within the BMFFL whose futures have yet to be determined. With two weeks left to go, crunch time is here and it is time to either rise to the occasion or fall back down to the cellar. Even teams who have wrapped up first place need to continue to perform at a high level or they will face a tougher opponent in the playoffs. Seeding can be the difference between playing a poor team, a quality team, or even a doubleheader. As the weather turns colder and the competition grows stiffer, each player must find the heart, the skill, and the desire to perform above and beyond for his teammates. Now is the time to see  who those players and teams are.

The battle for supremacy continues in the 8Man (A/B) South Division with Outlaws and the Generals each with 5-0 records. Last week the Generals squeaked out a victory over Outkast(4-1), 19-18, to maintain their share of the division lead. Outlaws shut out their opponent, the last place DawgPound, 19-0, to stay even with the Generals. In a match-up that promises to be one if the best of the year, the Generals will face their rivals, Outlaws, for the Division Title. If you’ve got a game in Brockton this Sunday, this 8:00am game is one worth getting up early to watch.

FlagMag Oddsmakers are giving a slight edge to Outlaws(+1).

In the 8Man (A/B) North Division, 3 teams are battling it out for the division title, the Rebels, Assassins, and Alliance. In another classic match-up on the dock this Sunday, 4-0 Alliance is pitted against the best of the Central, Untouchables (4-1). The Rebels play the 2-3 Panthers, and the Assassins face the struggling 0-5 Warriors. This division will certainly come down to the final week, with all eyes watching who will come out alone and on top.

In the 8Man (A/B) Central Division, Untouchables maintain their slim hold on first place, while the Shamrocks hope that a win for them and an Untouchable loss will propel them into a share of first. The Shamrocks (3-2) face the pesky Muddas (3-2) in Lowell @ 10:30. The 3-2 Bowl Hogs also hope a victory over the dangerous MadPack will put them in good position in week 7 to make a run at the division title.

In the 8Man C Division South, Bryan’s Place and Swanies Crew share a tight lead over the Road Dogs and Washington Tap. Swanies Crew will face a dangerous Road Dog team this weekend in a battle that could open things up or make things even tighter. Bryan’s Place will face a tough Dynasty team coming off a nice victory over Secret City last weekend. Washington Tap, coming off a huge victory over Damiens will face a struggling Secret City team @ 10:30.

In the 8Man C Division North, Mill City Militia 5-0 holds a commanding 2 game lead over the competition in what is clearly a division of teams fighting for 2nd place. Mill City will face a tough test this weekend against Xplosion(3-2). Xplosion is fighting to keep their slim hopes of winning the division alive. A victory this weekend over Mill City would go a long way in helping their cause.

In the 8Man C Division Central, it is a two-team race between 5-0 Legion of Doom and 4-1 Murphy’s Law. Legion of Doom has surprised everyone this year with their solid play. Murphy’s Law has also been excellent and take their 4-1 record into week 6 against AMSTD(1-4). Legion of Doom will try to keep pace and ahead of the pack against Sweep the Leg Johnny 1-4(a new name might be in order for these fellas).

The final 2 weeks promises to be compelling and competitive, as the intensity level reaches a fever pitch in preparation for the playoffs. Everything is on the line, who will hang on and who will fall off? The next two weeks will reveal who the true frontrunners are and who the pretenders are. Stay tuned……………………..

Play hard, play smart, play tough!

Manchester, NH- 5Man Youth League

The Manchester Youth Flag Football League is now up and running with over 50 children between the ages of 6 – 12 participating in the town’s first youth program. Just like any other new sports program the organizers, the parents and the kids playing will take time to develop and get to grips with the initiative behind the program. In the 6-8 category we have four teams that all possess kids with unexpected talent and the 9-12 category are already well structured and playing very nice flag football. The parent’s involvement is crucial to the development of the program as they should encourage their kids to attend practice sessions and pay attention to the coaches. Reason being that come towards the end of their regular season the kids will have to be prepared to meet the Londonderry Youth League opposition that are in their second year program. The Londonderry Youth Flag League have close to 80 kids playing and are a very confident, structured and enthusiastic group. Their coaches run practice sessions every week and all have developed into good teams. The Manchester sector will also develop but it takes time and commitment from both the kids and parents. The incentive is that from an organization’s perspective we would like the kids to leave the field every weekend with a big smile on their face, thinking that was great fun. On the other hand, they have to learn the basics i.e. shotgun, passing the ball, less running and spreading the ball to all participants are fundamental to the success of this program

New Hampshire World Cup warm up Tournament

Dream Team England Austin Bradshaw (Capt), Alex Skivington, Adam Rasul and Onyebuchi Ebo (V Capt) participated in their first 4man tournament on USA soil as a learning curve and preparations for the World Cup of Flag Football coming up in the Dominican Republic next year. The tournament that consisted of a good standard of B class teams from the MA area posed strong opposition for the English players. According to Jim Zimolka “The guys need more games under their belt at this level for them to be capable of competing against USA teams and I think they have taken the right step towards improving their game and preparing for the World Cup”. The teams won the first round robin game 24 – 19 and then lost their second by one score to the team that won the tournament. Butch and Austin shared the QB responsibilities and did quite well especially as they have never played as a team in the USA before, while Adam rushed and had four sacks in the three games. Overall the team played relatively well, made a few critical mistakes that they will learn from and improve for the upcoming tournaments and the World Cup of Flag Football.
The tournament was won by the new kids on the block, The Franchise of East Boston after losing ther first game won 3 in a row to capture the first title.
